UP: 29 killed in a bus accident

On the wee hours of Monday a passenger bus fell into a drain on Yamuna Expreessway killing approximately  29 people and injuring 23. The bus with about 52 passengers was heading from Lucknow's Alambagh depot to Delhi.



At around 4.15 am , the bus after hitting the divider, fell into a 40 feet deep gap between two flyovers on the Expressway near milestone 161 (Jharna nullah) under Etmadpur  police jurisdiction of Agra district.



"It seems the bus driver of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) Jan Rath fell asleep on the wheel, breaking the divider and taking the bus into 40-feet shallow gap between two flyovers of Yamuna Expressway," said Major Manish Singh (in-charge coordinator  of Yamuna Expressway ) 

UP chief minister Yogi Aditiyanath rush to the spot to monitor the situation. UP Government has also announced a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to the families of the deceased. Rescue operations are currently underway.

PM Narendra Modi also directed the state government and local administration to provide all assistance to the victims.
