Does nation have a notion for girl child?



“Girls are pearls, ladies are rubies, mothers are moulders, and women are wonderful.” 








While we speak of giving equal opportunities to girls in every field, if the 2011 census reports are to be believed, the sex ratio varies from 918 girls per 1000 boys in India. Observing girl child day on 24th of January, Newscrust does a comparative report on the child mortality rate in India.

The census report of 2001 shows 927 girls per 1000 boys and in 2011 it was observed as 918 girls per 1000 boys.  On the other hand the literacy rate in 2001 was 54.61% for females and 75.85% for males which showed an upward trend and reached 65.46% for females and 80% for males in 2011.  The sex ratio in Delhi (2005-07) was 871 females per 1000 male whereas after the implementation of this National Girl child day it reached 880 females per 1000 males in (2009-11). But on the other hand Punjab in (2005-07) had 889 females per 1000 males whereas 841 females per 1000 males was estimated in (2009-11).

Significance of Celebrating National Girl Child Day

The purpose of this day is to promote and enhance girl’s position in the society, remove all the inequalities faced by them at different levels in their life. Inequality about a girl child is a vast problem which includes many areas like inequality in education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, safety, honour, child marriage etc. And also to ensure that every girl is well aware and alert about her rights and propagate gender equality in India. 

To fulfill all these objectives the government of India organizes different campaigns all over the country to increase the awareness among the people towards the girl child. Various advertisements are also run by different radio stations, T.V channels to spread awareness about the importance and right of girl child.
