The "JUMBO" player of the cricket world



Former Indian cricketer and also who had been the captain of Test and One Day International (ODI) matches, Anil Kumble, is very good at right-arm leg spin bowling, he is called as "JUMBO" With his wonderful performances on ground he retired in 2008. 

On his birthday let’s know more about him...


Early Life:


  • Anil Kumble was born on 17 October 1970 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. 
  • He was born into a Kannadiga family. His father was K.N. Krishna Swamy and mother Saroja. He also have a brother Dinesh Kumble. 
  • Kumble studied primary at Holy Saint English School. 
  • When he was merely 13 years old he started playing at the club ‘Young cricketers’. 
  • He completed his secondary education from National High School, Basavanagudi in Banglore.
  • He completed his graduation in Mechanical Engineering from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya college of Engineering.




Career: 
  • Anil started his career as a fast bowler. 
  • He started in ODI’s on 25 April 1990 in the match against Sri Lanka. 
  • Also in the same year he made his debut in the test match against England. 
  • Kumble had a record of first 50 test wickets in just 10 matches then it was broken by Ashwin as he took 50 test wickets in just 9 matches.
  • He took 6 wickets for 12 runs at the Eden garden in the match against West Indies, it was an Indian record. 
  • He is the only bowler who owns a record of taking 10 wickets in an inning after Jim Lekar. Wisden regarded this as the second best 'Bowling Performance of all the time’. 
  • Kumble is the second Indian cricketer to take 400 test wickets. 
  • He is considered as the highest wicket taking Indian bowler. He is the only Indian cricketer to take 5 wickets in test match more than 30 times. 
  • He is the third cricketer in the world to take 600 test wickets after Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne.  

  • He was then made captain of Indian test team on 8 November 2007.     
  • And on 2 November 2008, he took retirement at Feroz Shah Kotla cricket stadium, New Delhi.

  • Inducted into ICC Cricket Hall of Fame (2015)


Anil is married to Chethana Ramtheertha. He married Chethana after her divorce. They together have two children, one son Mayas and a daughter Svasti . Also, Chethana’s daughter Aaruni from her previous marriage.
