Goa is ready to start its new tourist season from October 4 after the first charted flight carrying visitors from Russia will land in the state.


Tourism is a major sources of revenue for Goa with its beautiful beaches along with a long coastline of 105 km and also attracts over six million visitors annually.

Savio Messiah, President of Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) said, "The first chartered flight of tourists from Russia will arrive on October 4 at the Dabolim airport in the state." 

TTAG is the apex body of tour operators in Goa.

Egypt and Turkey attract tourists by offering cheap holiday packages, the coastal states of India is counting on its regular tourists from Russia and UK to boost the tourist season, Messiah added. 

"Domestic tourists who come here from across the country have made Goa an all year-round destination, including in the monsoon, which was earlier considered a slack season for the tourism industry," he said.

The airport of Goa has been receiving a good number of charted flights from different countries at the time of international tourist season that starts in the month of October and continues till April or May. 

During the last tourist season a total of 808 charted flights carrying 2.15 lakh visitors as per the  state tourism department's website. In 2016-17 988 chartered flights had brought in 2.32 lakh foreigners in the state. 

"Beach shacks have already been erected and we are eagerly waiting for the first chartered flight to land," Goa Shack Owners' Welfare Society president Cruz Cardoso said.
The tourism department this time allotted shacks much in advance due to which the structures are ready before the arrival of the first batch of Russian travelers, he added.

Beach shacks are palm thatched structures where food and liquor are served to tourists.The state tourism department allots shacks during tourist season every year.

As per the state government data, Around 360 shacks are built every year on different beaches as per the data of state government. 

Goa is also popular among the tourists for its Portuguese architecture, churches and temples.
