Acid attack on a 23 year old woman in Amritsar

A man in Amritsar threw acid on a 23 year old woman as she rejected his marriage proposal on Friday. The man was arrested by the police on Saturday. The attack has caused serious burns on the victims body.

The incident took place on Friday when the victim, a student of BEd was returning back to home from her college. Two men on a motorcycle chased her and after she got down from the bus at Thoba village, a place 25 km away from Amritsar. 

The accused, Inderjit Singh was interested in marrying the victim  but her parents were reluctant. Following which, the police said, she conveyed her unwillingness to marry Singh. The lover than planned a conspiracy with his cousin Jbanjit Singh to damage the woman's face and threw acid on her.

She was then taken to village hospital by few passengers where where she was referred to Amritsar Government Guru Nanak Hospital.

The shopkeeper who sold acid to the accused was also arrested and an additional stock of acid stored in plastic drums was seized.

A case has been registered against the accused under Section 326 A of the Indian Penal Code for willfully causing grievous injuries by acid.
