In Shopian 5 militants gunned down; civilian killed in clashes

Five militants  on Saturday in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir were gunned down in an encounter with security forces. A civilian was killed and 10 others were injured during clashes with law enforcement personnel after the gun battle.

Saturday morning Fresh exchange of firing between militants and security forces took place at Kiloora in Shopian, where a militant was killed on Friday night.

The official said "Four more terrorists have been killed in the operation at Kiloora in Shopian. One terrorist was killed last night."
All the five militants are locals and have been identified as Umer Nazir Malik, Waqar Ahmad Sheikh, Aijaz Ahmad Paul, Arshad Ahmad Khan and Arif Ahmad Mir.

Clashes broke out between protesters and security forces at several places in the district Soon after the encounter ended.

A police official added that, a civilian was killed in a firing incident at Ganowpora, while two others sustained injuries. He said Bilal Ahmad Khan was hit by a bullet after the funeral prayers of one of the militants, who was among the five ultras killed in the gun battle with security forces at Kiloora. Khan was taken to a hospital.

A local resident claimed that he was hit by bullets fired by the army personnel in response to stone-pelting by protestors. A defence spokesman stated that the details of the incident were being ascertained and an official statement will be released soon.

In another incident in Shopian, at least 10 persons were injured in clashes between security forces and protestors.

In Kiloora hundreds of protestors gathered near the encounter site  and started pelting stones at the security forces.
