The ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee were immersed today in the Arabian Sea here in the presence of senior BJP leaders.

In an attempt to follow the path of Gandhiji, BJP leaders are immersing the ashes of veteran leader and former prime minister Vajpayee in rivers and coastal river beds across the country.

The "asthi kalash yatra" , which took place on Friday, had several BJP leaders travelling in a boat and its city unit chief Ashish Shelar and senior state minister Vinod Tawde were seen immersing the ashes in the sea.

Vajpayee, three-time Prime Minister, died on August 16 after a prolonged illness that saw the 93-year-old poet-statesman withdraw from public life almost a decade ago.
